Hi! I am Lucero. I am married for almost 3 years. Me and my husband are trying to conceive. I was on detail checkup and done tests. According to my doctor, it's everything fine with me. I convinced my husband to go to the doctor. We want to know what kind of tests they will do. What types of male fertility tests are performed? It would be easier for him to know what to expect.

A semen analysis is the most common procedure when it comes to male fertility testing and seeking to determine if there is a male infertility factor. Sperm is collected into a specimen jar and presented to a lab technician who examines the sperm under a microscope in order to evaluate the count, shape, appearance, and mobility of the sperm. They will also be checking to see if the sperm concentration is above or below 20 million sperm cells per milliliter of ejaculation fluid. If the sperm count is found to be low, the fertility specialist will probably test the blood testosterone, FSH, LH and prolactin levels. There are a number of supplements available to help improve sperm parameters such as count, motility and morphology. Urinalysis can be used to search for white blood cells, an indicator of possible infection. Urinalysis will also show the possible presence of sperm in the urine. If there is a sperm in the urine that is an indicator of a possible problem with ejaculation known as retrograde ejaculation.

You are righ, these are the most common tests. There are some others that are rarely used. A laboratory can test utilizing hamster eggs to evaluate a sperm’s capability of penetrating the egg. A laboratory can a non-usable human egg cut in half. The purpose of the procedure is to see if the sperm are able to penetrate the outermost protective layer of the egg. An x-ray exam is used to determine if there is blockage or leakage of sperm in the vas deferens. There are some others but I think that they would not go so far.

Thank you ladies. I already show this to my husband. It's not so bad. These are his words. Men are such a babies when they have to go to the doctor. But I am happy that he agreed to go. That is our first step to find the right way.

There could be an issue with the quality of the sperms. There could also be an issue with the number of sperms. I guess you should get these things tested. If there is a male factor infertility then IUI is the most successful process. It's time you visit a good clinic for the process. Good luck to you. Sending baby dust your way. Do keep us updated.

Hey Lucero! Hope you are doing fine. The main thing that matters in the male is the sperm count and quality. They will do tests about them. I hope things work out for you both. Just keep on trying. Good luck.

Hello. Sorry to hear about your struggles. Mostly just sperm is tested initially. The most common issue that men face with fertility is low sperm motility. This can be treated too. If nothing works out, you still have an option. You can go with donor sperm. Anyway, good luck.

I think you are right. It is very important for your husband to get tested. Often time we ignore such an important factor. The clinic I am visiting was really particular about it. The first thing they did was test us both. To ensure where the problem lied. That indeed really help us out. Hoping for the best now.

They will simply check the quality of the sperm. Apart from that, they will see the number of sperms that are there. I hope things are perfect. Make sure to visit a good doctor for the process. Usually, people with male factor infertility opt for IUI. It has proven to be a really good treatment. Just research about the clinic before opting for them. Sending baby dust your way.
