Hi
IIs anyone else been prescribed progesterone pessaries while pregnant? I'm on week 22 and my doc reckons I am at risk of pre-term labour because I have a short cervix. Not that short yet, 2cm - previously I was told this was not bad for someone who had the Lletz procedure 1 year ago.
I'm not sure if this is really necessary it's not 100% guaranteed that progesterone does stop miscarriages and pre-term labour. And anyway, there is no guarantee that I'll go into pre-term. Apparenly lots of women who've had the lletz/leep procedure have normal pregnancies.
Please let me know if you have been doing or have done the progeterone pessaries treatment while pregnant. How long did you do it for? Did it make any difference?
Thanks

Hi there. I think this is something you should ask your doctor. Progesterone pessaries are quite helpful overall. Despite that, if you are having doubts about its usefulness then I would suggest you voice them in front of your doctor. He/she can then guide you accordingly. Drugs and supplements work differently for each person and case This is why you can't make a decision on whether to continue or discontinue the treatment based on somebody else's experience.

"Well, I share your views on progesterone. The main purpose of giving progesterone to a pregnant woman is to prevent a miscarriage. It's often given when a female is having IVF treatment to ensure the fetus stays put.
I also read somewhere that to date the doctors have not found any adverse side effects of using progesterone. However, another thing, called estrogen dominance, can cause complications. (apparently, our progesterone activates the estrogen receptor sites...)
I think you should check with your doc and see what he has to say. Please also share here what he said so all of us can know as well."

So, I never knew I had a tight cervix until I got pregnant for the first time. Half way through the pregnancy I experienced period like cramps. As I was taken to the hospital I realised that there was something seriously wrong with me. Unfortunately I had a miscarriage. I was also told that I am one of those women who have tight cervix and during the termination procedure much more force was used to dilate my cervix. This resulted in traumatised tissue. I further had two more miscarriages as my cervix was declared incompetent and weak. After doing research online, I came across a treatment of IVF. I had to give this a chance. It was my silver lining during the darkest days of my life. Going through IVF the first time, the doctors took 8 eggs through which 2 survived. I was desperate for this to work as I knew my biological clock is ticking. The 2 eggs that survived are my two lovely girls, Beth and Liz; 6 months old and healthy. We never thought that IVF would actually work. It felt like a dream come true. I was so lost seeing my friends happy in flourishing in their own families. But miracles do happen. Ladies! Don’t lose hope so soon. It’s a big wide world out there with so many opportunities and new beginnings.

Hi there. How are you? You and I are in the same boat. I also have a short cervix. My doctor communicated it to me already. He told me that I might be at the risk of preterm labor. He even told me that I might face premature birth of my baby. I was also given the progesterone peccaries. However, they didn’t prove to be beneficial in my case. I ended up in miscarriage. Although progesterone peccaries are helpful in many cases but they were not for me. Not all the medicines and procedures suit everybody. You need to ask your doctor about it. I will not suggest you take medicines by knowing other people experiences. You may harm yourself this way.

Hey, I hope things go well. They are helpful. If your doctor is recommending them then I believe you should take them. I hope things go well. Just stay positive and strong. Dont worry! I am sure the pregnancy will go smoothly.
